Massage Therapy.
Powerful manual techniques to correct structural imbalances for optimal health.
Massage is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues for therapeutic effect. The two main physiological effects are: to increase blood and lymph circulation; and to relax and normalise soft tissue. A whole body massage will have a general de-stressing and restorative effect, while other forms such as Remedial Massage, Chinese Massage (Tui na) or Myofascial Therapy are targeted at specific, localised pain or injury, with the aim of promoting the healing of specific tissues.
Types of Massage Therapy offered at Project DAO, Alexandria
Remedial Massage.
Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment aimed at relieving pain and restoring normal movement. It differs from relaxation massages by focusing on specific areas of discomfort or injury, employing deeper tissue techniques to address muscle tension, inflammation, and restricted movement. It has been proven effective in combating chronic pain, headaches, muscular injuries, and even digestive disorders.
Remedial Massage Therapists are registered health practitioners in Australia. Private health insurance rebate is available for remedial massage with Steph.
Myofascial therapy.
Myofascial Therapy is a specialised technique that focuses on releasing tension and pain in the fascia, the connective tissue enveloping muscles, bones, and organs. By addressing restrictions in the fascia, this therapy aims to improve flexibility, reduce pain, and restore normal movement patterns. Myofascial therapists use gentle, sustained pressure to release tightness and improve overall body function.
Myofascial therapy is particularly effective in addressing musculoskeletal conditions characterised by chronic pain and restricted movement. Common issues include:
Chronic pain: including back pain, neck pain, and headaches
Muscle tension and stiffness: often associated with poor posture or repetitive strain injuries
Joint pain: such as arthritis or bursitis
Fibromyalgia: a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain
Post-surgery scar tissue: to improve range of motion and reduce discomfort
Sports injuries: aiding in recovery and preventing re-injury
Myofascial therapists are registered health practitioners in Australia. Private health insurance rebate is available for myofascial therapy with Steph.

Traditional Chinese Massage (Tui Na).
Tui Na, an ancient healing art from Chinese Medicine, centres on harmonising the body’s vital energy, Qi. This time-honoured therapy addresses a wide spectrum of conditions, from chronic pain and insomnia to digestive issues and stress.
Tui Na offers a needle-free approach to the principles of acupuncture. Instead of using needles to stimulate specific points on the body, Tui Na employs skilled hand techniques to manipulate these same points, known as acupoints. By applying pressure, kneading, and other manipulations, Tui Na practitioners can effectively balance the flow of Qi, the body’s vital energy, just as acupuncture aims to do.
Our practitioner, Thad Wong, offers a unique Tui Na experience. His background in internal martial arts infuses his treatments with a meditative quality, combining the physical benefits of Tui Na with the mental relaxation of Qigong. Unlike traditional massage, Tui Na is conducted without requiring patients to undress, ensuring comfort and convenience.
