Acupuncture

Acupuncture taps into the innate healing ability of the body. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi – our vital energy – flows around our body through specific channels, known as meridians; disease occurs when the flow is restricted. The skillful placement of needles facilitates the proper movement of Qi, regulating and correcting imbalances in the meridian system to restore homeostasis. Acupuncture is safe, non-invasive, and virtually painless.

Used for thousands of years all across Asia, it has become internationally recognised. Here in the West, we continue to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of its effectiveness through rigorous scientific research. As we enter a new era of chronic illness, the role of acupuncture in the contemporary world has become increasingly relevant and accepted.

Acupuncture research has demonstrated benefits for many human physiological systems:

  • hormone levels
  • blood pressure
  • the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems
  • pain receptors
  • the brain
  • the immune system
  • cardiovascular function

At Project DAO, our acupuncturists will decide which needle points to use after reaching a diagnosis via detailed questioning and observation based on Chinese Medicine principles. We will often include the use of cupping, moxibustion, tuina, and/or guasha to enhance the effects of the treatment. If called for we may also use an infrared heat lamp to help nourish your system.
