Essentially, acupuncture restores the healing ability of the body and brings the body back to homeostasis. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) , Qi – the vital life-force energy – flows around our body through specific channels, known as meridians, and disease or disorder occurs when the flow is restricted.  The skilful placement of needles facilitates the movement of Qi, essentially returning the body to a state of balance, or homeostasis.

Used for thousands of years all across Asia, it has become internationally recognised as the West continues to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of its effectiveness through rigorous scientific research.  It has been shown to affect: hormone levels; blood pressure; the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous systems; pain receptors; the brain; the limbic system; immunity; and the cardiovascular system.  As we enter a new generation of chronic illness the role of acupuncture in the contemporary world has becomes increasingly relevant and accepted.  Acupuncture is safe, non-invasive, and virtually painless.

At Project DAO, our acupuncturists will decide which needle points to use after reaching a diagnosis via detailed questioning and observation based on TCM principles. We will often include the use of cupping, moxibustion, tuina, and/or guasha to enhance the effects of the treatment. If called for we may also use a heat lamp to help nourish your system.

Your acupuncturists at Project DAO are Yanan and Priscilla.  All of them work with all aspects of health, and with both acute and chronic disorders.

Yanan has a special interest in mental health; pain syndromes; autoimmune, mental health issues, dermatological disorders; and chronic complex diseases.
